How to Go to Siargao from Samar the Cheapest and Easiest Way

SAMAR TO LEYTE

From Samar, I have to go to Tacloban so I can ride a bus going to Liloan.

BUS COMPANY NAME: Bachelor Tours
Schedule: 7 am, 11 am
Location: Palo, Leyte
Fare: PHP 370 (regular), PHP 300 (student)

NOTE:
You can also ride this bus if you are going to Davao or Butuan. Most public vans stop in Tacloban city. Hence, you still need to ride a jeepney going to Palo; allot thirty minutes for this in case of traffic. Just tell the jeepney driver to drop you off at the station of Bachelor Tours; everyone knows where it is. When you're in doubt, don't hesitate to ask the locals. I highly recommend you to come earlier than the schedule because you still have to enlist yourself and the bus usually gets full quickly. It's first-come-first-serve basis. My friend told me that the bus sometimes departs earlier than the schedule as soon as all the seats get occupied.

Tell the conductor that you just want to stop in Liloan so you will just pay 370. If you tell him/her that you will go to Surigao, you will pay 400. You don't need to ride the bus again when you reach the port in Surigao. Just save the thirty pesos for your snacks.

Bus going to Liloan/Davao. Schedule: 7 am and 11 am.

LEYTE TO SURIGAO

It took us about three and a half hours to arrive in Liloan. It was almost 4 pm when we reached its port. Once you see the buildings below, that's it. Get your stuff and get off the bus.

Passengers' Waiting Area

The boat's departure is at 6 pm, so we had to wait for two hours. There's a canteen at the back if you want to eat. It's quite hot inside because there's no airconditioner. Thus, we decided to just wait outside of the building.

I forgot what time we arrived at the port of Lipata, Surigao del Norte. I just know it was already evening and we were hungry, so we went to the nearest cafeteria which is just in front of the ferry terminal's entrance.

Menu. ^_^ The chicken costs 60 pesos. I didn't ask about the others.

SURIGAO TO SIARGAO

The pictures below is the ferry terminal. It can be seen right away once you reached Lipata port. The entrance is at the back. If you get lost, although I'm sure you wouldn't, please ask the security guards. ^_^ The departure from Lipata to Dapa, Siargao Island is at 5 am. We just stayed inside for the whole night. The waiting area looks cool. They have a lot of sockets in case you need to charge your phone or PC and many electric fans. They have souvenir shops and a playing area for the kids. The areas are clean. They also have a water dispenser on the side where passengers can get drinking water for free. Their toilet also looks more decent than other terminals. There's also wifi but the signal was very poor. I was impressed because this is the cleanest port I have seen in the Philippines so far.

That's all, folks! :) We arrived in Siargao island at 9 am. It took me 24 hours from Samar to Siargao. 😄 Most of my time are just wasted on waiting, but that's because the boat going to Siargao only has one schedule (or that's just what we know? LOL)! 😭

ALTERNATE ROUTE

If you wish to take an alternative route, you can also go to Benit Port in San Ricardo, Leyte instead of Liloan port. However, you have to ride many vehicles. Below is the schedule of trips:

If you have any question or if you know any easier alternative route, feel free to comment below. If you don't comment, then I would assume that this is already the best tip. 😌

  1. Thanks! That was really good information. Is there a problem landing in Surigao because of the Martial Law?

    1. No, it's okay. :) Just make sure you bring a valid ID for the check points. Here's an article from Tripzilla if you want to know how safe it is: https://www.tripzilla.com/skyjet-airlines-travellers-siargao-martial-law/64478

  6. Hi, thank you for this very helpful article. I'm just wondering about the daily schedule trips from Port of Surigao. The schedule seems to be quite confusing, how many hours does it take to go from Lipata Surigao to Dapa? If the departure is 05:30 and arrival is 13:00 1pm, does it mean it takes 8 hours to get there? Or.. It's just about when the boat arrives and leaves??? Thanks

    1. Hello! It's only three hours. The boat to Dapa leaves at 5:00 or 5:30 am depending on the ship company. If you want to go back to Surigao, from Siargao, the latest time is at 1 pm. This post is not updated, by the way. I ought to make a new post but I lost my notes due to a virus.
